THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS: GIMALXINA ® is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections such as:
Infections of the upper and lower airways: For example, ear, nose and throat, otitis media, sinusitis, pharyngitis, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, lobar pneumonia and bronchopneumonia.
Gastrointestinal: For example, typhoid fever and paratyphoid.
Genitourinary infections: For example, cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis, bacteriuria in pregnancy, septic abortion, puerperal sepsis.
Skin and soft tissue.
Biliary tract infections.
Bone infections.
Pelvic infections.
Gonorrhea (penicillinase non-producing strains).
Septicemia.
Endocarditis.
Meningitis.
Peritonitis.
Dental abscesses: (As a complement to surgical treatment).
Infections such as septicemia, endocarditis and meningitis, caused by susceptible organisms should be treated initially with high dose intravenous therapy administered and, where appropriate, in combination with another antibiotic.
Prophylaxis of endocarditis: GIMALXINA ® formulation can be used in the prevention of bacteremia associated with surgical procedures such as tooth extraction in patients at risk for endocarditis.
In general, strains of these microorganisms are generally sensitive to the bactericidal action of GIMALXINA ® in vitro:
Gram-positive:
Aerobes: Enterococcus faecalis, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus viridans, Staphylococcus aureus sensitive to penicillin, Corynebacterium species, Bacillus anthracis, Listeria monocytogenes.
Anaerobes: Clostridium species.
Negative:
Aerobes: Haemophilus influenzae, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Salmonella species, Shigella species, Bordetella pertussis, Brucella species, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Neisseria meningitidis, Pasteurella septica, Vibrio cholerae, Helicobacter pylori.
Amoxicillin is susceptible to degradation
by beta-lactamase, so that the spectrum of activity of the formulation GIMALXINA ® does not include organisms which produce these enzymes, including resistant staphylococci and all strains of Pseudomonas, Klebsiella and Enterobacter.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
Adults: 500 mg to 1 g every 8 hours by mouth. The dose calculated at a rate of 50-100 mg / kg/ day.
Children: 250 to 500 mg every 8 hours by mouth.
The calculation based on body weight should be 20 to 40 mg / kg / day.
Treatment should continue for at least 72 hours after symptoms have disappeared and thenegative cultures.ivos.
